I Love Carson City Weekend Event Summary: Oct. 24-25

One last weekend until Nevada Day, and the ghosts and ghouls are coming out of the woodwork. Learn our haunted history with the Downtown Ghost Walk. For thrills and chills, don’t miss the Second Annual Carson Creepy Short Horror Film Competition in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. SATURDAY:

  • Coffee and Donuts with EAA Sierra Chapter 403 at 2500 E. College Pkwy (8:30am-12pm, all welcome)
  • NAA Art Exhibit by Mark Kyle and Photography by Chas. H. McDonnell, III at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)
  • Silver Cats Cat Club Presents Comstock Lode of Cats at the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall (9am-5pm; $10 for Families, $3 for Seniors and Kids, $5 for Adults; Bring 2 cans of pet food for "Pets of the Homeless" and receive $1 off admission)
  • Holiday Craft Fair and Bake Sale at the Dayton Senior Center: 320 Old Dayton Valley Rd, Dayton (9am-2pm; All proceeds from Booth Sales, Raffle Tickets, Silent Auction, and Bake Sale go to support the Dayton Senior Center)
  • Children’s’ Books Half Price Sale at the Browsers Corner Book Store (9:30am-6pm)
  • Muscle Powered Bike Ride: meet by the Muscle Powered bike rack in front of the Community Pool at 841 N. Roop St. (9:40am-11:40am; must wear helmets and closed toed shoes; riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
  • Day Out with Thomas the Tank Engine at the V and T Depot: 166 F Street, Virginia City (rides depart hourly 10am-2pm; $19; arrive one hour prior to departure time)
  • CCAI's Industrial Art exhibition at the Carson City Library (10am-5pm)
  • Downtown Carson City Ghost Walk: The Mystery of Jack Davis (All tours begin behind the Firkin and Fox and leave every half hour beginning at 10am. Last tour will leave at 2:30pm. Tickets can be purchased online at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2288093. $15 in advance or $20 on day of tours.)
  • Community Roots Fall Festival with a pumpkin patch, food booths, bounce houses and more at 60 Second Avenue, Dayton (10am; benefit to support Dayton High School boosters)
  • Monthly support group meeting of F.E.A.T. (Families for Effective Autism Treatment) in the back room of Comma Coffee (10:30am)
  • Virginia and Truckee Round-trip Steam Train Ride: leave from Carson City Eastgate Depot on Flint Drive, off U.S. Highway 50 East at 10am and Depart Virginia City Depot at 3pm (tickets limited, $52, seniors and veterans $48, kids 3-16 $32, arrive 30 minutes early)

Kids aren’t going to want to miss their chance to meet Thomas the Tank Engine at the Virginia and Truckee depot in Virginia City. Tickets are limited, so go here to see what is available. Children’s books are half price today at Browsers Corner Book Store across from the Carson City Library. Head to Nerdvana on Hot Springs Road for a Halloween Bash with games, a raffle, and kids costume contest.

  • Carson and Mills Park Railroad Rides in Mills Park (12pm-6pm; $2 or $5 for 3)
  • Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar Tasting and Pairing Luncheon at the Bistro at Tahoe Ridge Winery (12pm-1:30pm; $20; RSVP 775-473-1790)
  • Meet and Greet and Pop-up Art Show with New Zealand artist and high country shepherd Sophie Scott and Live Music by Milo McCormick at the Silver City School House: 385 High Street, Silver City (1pm-4pm)

  • Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Light After Dark 5K/10K Walk/Run at Riverview Park at the end of Fifth street (6pm-9pm; $40, under 18 $20, sign up at Classy Seconds Thrift Shop; Teams with themes and kids and strollers are welcome; Starting at noon on Race Day participants can pick-up their packets at Riverview Park. Warm-ups will begin at 5:30pm)
  • 4H Family Costume Ball at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Gardnerville (doors 5:30pm, decorated pumpkin and costume contest around 6:30pm; $5 per person, or $20 for a family of five, age 4 and under free; carnival games, a silent auction, raffle prizes and refreshments for additional cost)

Strut your stuff with your favorite pooch at Carson Mall. A Mutt Strut walkathon is raising funds for area cancer patients. Dogs are not welcome, however, at Riverside Park tonight during the rescheduled Light After Dark 5K fundraiser for the Advocates to End Domestic Violence. Coyotes have attacked pets out there recently, and their safety is key. Make sure to dress up!

Living the Good Life is holding their annual Halloween Party tonight with Costumes and Cocktails. Three costume contests will be held to give you the chance to show off your creativity. Singers will want to hit up Carson Lanes, the Spoke Bar and Grill, Westside Pour House, or Beercade for karaoke.

The Comstock Lode of Cats Show at Fuji Park is holding a food drive for Pets of the Homeless; you’ll get a discount on admission with a few cans of cat or dog food. Sassafras is where you’ll find a Concert for a Cause with the Trippin King Snakes. They are raising money for a local mother battling cancer. Enjoy a spaghetti feed at Flight Restaurant by the Minden Airport and help Steven Jacobo on his way to becoming a Paralympian.
