Sunday, Dec. 20: Things to do in and around Carson City

We all know that when a bell rings an angel gets its wings, thanks to Christmas classic ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ Head down to the Brewery Arts Center for a free viewing and share the movie with your friends, family, and community. The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers are one talented bunch and their performance of ‘Yes Virginia: The Musical’ is sure to be a hit with young and old alike.

SUNDAY:

  • Christmas Bird Count with the Lahontan Audubon Society- meet at Burger King: 3589 N. Carson St. (7am; If you know now that you plan on participating in the Carson City CBC, please e-mail rlowry517 at aol.com with your name or names of other participants)
  • Nevada Artists Association Art Exhibit featuring Howard Friedman and Photography by Chas. H. McDonnell, III at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)
  • Holiday Craft Fair and Pictures with Santa at the Carson Mall (Fair 10am-7pm; Santa 11am-5pm; Rainbow Girls Gift Wrap 10am-6pm)
  • Food Drive; Sock and Glove Tree for Do Drop In at Evergreen Gene’s: 1811 N. Carson (10am-5pm)
  • Last Day of the Carson City Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (Trains leave every half hour 10am-3pm; $5, children 2 and under who sit in an adult's lap are free; Refreshments, including hot cocoa, available for purchase from the Warren Engine Company)
  • Arlington Square Ice Rink (Sessions 10am-1pm, 2pm-5pm, 6pm-9pm; $7/$5 kids, $3 Skate Rental)
  • Raiders Booster Club at the Eleventh Frame Lounge in Carson Lanes (vs the Green Bay Packers; 10:05pm; for more info contact Rick Good at 775-267-4271)
  • Breese Design First Annual Christmas Sale and Music Showcase at the Canvas Café: 110 N. C Street, Virginia City (12pm, music begins at 2pm)
  • Sunday Funday: Free game of pool with drink purchase at Westside Pour House
  • Painting Class at Van Gogh and Vino (1:30pm-4pm; $25 per painter)
  • Weekly Pool Tournament at Whiskey Tavern (register 1pm; 2pm start; $10 per person)
  • Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers present ‘Yes, Virginia: The Musical’ at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Community Center (2pm; $12)
  • Free Movie: It’s a Wonderful Life at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall (2pm; Free)
  • PoP Up Story time at the Carson City Library (2pm-2:20pm; park at the Community Center or at Smith’s Grocery)
  • Pool Tournament at Remedy’s (2pm-5pm; $5 buy-in; APA Rules)
  • Family Day: All Ages Painting Class at Van Gogh and Vino (2:30pm-5pm; $15 per painter)
  • Sing for Your Discount Karaoke at A to Zen (3pm-6pm; free)
  • Suds for Seniors Fundraiser at the Feisty Goat Pub: 1881 E. Long St. (4pm-10am; $15 to sample five beers; benefits the Meals on Wheels program; Tickets are available at the Carson Visitor Center and are good through Jan. 30)
  • Candy Cane Lane: custom outdoor drive-thru Christmas light display at Carson Valley Inn, Minden (6pm-9pm)
  • Painting Class: Fundraiser for Cruz Alaniz Family at Van Gogh and Vino (6:30pm-9pm; $30 per painter)
