Springtime means spring break for the students at Western Nevada College, and it begins today. A chance to catch up on homework, catch your breath, and catch some of the fun stuff around town. Enjoy ladies night at Remedy’s Bar. Wander through some of the great art exhibits throughout town. Sing your heart out at Firkin and Fox’s karaoke night. However you spend the day, just rejoice that they are finally getting longer.

MONDAY:

  • Western Nevada College Spring Break
  • Challenge Quilts "Our World in Stitches" Art Show in the Western Nevada College Main Gallery in the Bristlecone Building
  • A Brushwork Roundup: Western Painting and Drawing by Craig Sheppard in the OXS Gallery at the Nevada Arts Council: 716 N. Carson St. (8am-5pm)
  • Nevada Artists Association Art Exhibit featuring Emily Cervi and Photography by Chas. H. McDonnell, III at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)
  • ’For Detail View’ by artist Jeff Hantman at the CCAI Gallery in the Courthouse: 885 E. Musser (8am-5pm)
  • ’Pinhole Properties’ exhibit by artist Nancy Raven at the Community Development building [formerly the BRIC]: 108 E Proctor St (8am-12pm and 1pm-4pm)
  • Family Day: $1 Bowling and Shoe Rental Specials at Carson Lanes (9am-10pm)
  • Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Phase 1A Improvements Project at the Water Resource Recovery Facility: 3320 E. Fifth St. (10am; Parking is limited on site, so please ride-share if possible)
  • Winter Art Show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery in the Brewery Arts Center (10am-4pm)
  • Mimosa Monday all day at Ed’s Doghouse
  • Carson City Host Lions Club weekly lunch meeting at Grandma Hattie’s (12pm; for more information, call Tim at 775-885-7033)
  • Ticket sales for the Second Annual Father-Daughter Dance at the Carson High School office (2pm-4pm; $30 for a father/daughter pair, $10 additional daughters)
  • Suds for Seniors Fundraiser at the Firkin and Fox OR the Feisty Goat Pub: 1881 E. Long St. (4pm-10am; $15 to sample five beers; benefits the Meals on Wheels program; Tickets also available at the Carson Visitor Center and are good through June 30)
  • CCAI Exhibit: Great Basin Native Artists, group show in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center (available during public meetings and most evenings 5pm-8pm)
  • Special Olympics Swim Practice at the Carson City Aquatic Center (5:30pm-7pm)
  • Dharma Zephyr Sangah Sitting Group at Methodist Church: 213 N. Minnesota, Youth Group Building corner of Proctor and Minnesota (5:30pm-6:30pm Beginners; 7pm-8:30pm)
  • Healthy Communities Coalition’s monthly cooking class: Breakfast Dishes at the Dayton Community Center: 170 Pike Street, Dayton (5:30pm; Free; Demos followed by a meal; Call 246-7550 for more details)
