Strong winds continue throughout Carson City area

Strong gusty winds will continue through today and into tonight, prompting a wind advisory for the region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno and CarsonWeather.com.

A number of wind-related calls to Carson City dispatch have surfaced today including fences being blown over, downed tree limbs and cable television lines. CarsonWeather.com reports a wind gust of 55 mph today at 4:03 p.m. as being the highest recorded thus far.

Gusts will continue in wind-prone areas along the Highway 395 corridor from Reno to Carson City to the Carson Valley, according to the weather service. The wind advisory issued by the weather service runs until 11 tonight. A high wind warning is in effect along Highway 395 through Washoe Valley. Trucks, buses, trailers and RVs are not allowed.
