Storm brings much-needed snow to Lake Tahoe ski resorts, more on the way

Lake Tahoe area ski resorts report anywhere from 8 to 24 inches of new snow from the first wave of storms to hit the Sierra Friday and Saturday. Another storm is expected to arrive late Sunday.

Sierra-at-Tahoe reports 10 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours. Heavenly received anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of snow overnight allowing them to open two new runs, High Five and Double Down. Kirkwood reports 9 inches of new snow, Northstar 10 inches, Squaw Valley 15 inches, Mt. Rose, anywhere from 19 to 24 inches and Diamond Peak, 12 inches. Click on to see the Heavenly video below.

Light showers will persist through Sunday morning, mainly across the Sierra ahead of the next low pressure system that will provide for snow in the Sierra and rain in Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton.

The next system will be another warm weather maker with snow levels beginning at around 8,000 feet but then lowering by Sunday afternoon, dropping to around 6,000 feet. Locations along the Sierra could received as much as 3 inches of water content, which, if it snows generates, could amount to anywhere from 1 to 2 feet of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Locally around Carson City, the storm could produce anywhere from a quarter to a half-inch of rain through Monday.
