Employers wanting to know about what to expect from the Affordable Care Act are invited to a Carson City luncheon next month hosted by the Nevada Business Group on Health.

The “Look into Your Future” luncheon on Dec. 4 will feature guest speaker Russ Sullivan, attorney and vice president of Health Care Solutions for the Associated Industries of Massachusetts, who will present an interactive session that draws upon lessons from Massachusetts’ seven-year health care reform experience. Sullivan will provide insight into how to prepare for the changes ahead.

The Nevada Business Group on Health is a non-profit that represents more than 60 Northern Nevada employers and their employees in all matters related to providing cost-effective health, health care and health insurance products and services.

Also sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, Carson Tahoe Health and Carson Nugget Casino, the Wednesday, Dec. 4 luncheon runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Carson Nugget Casino. The cost is $10 per person at the door and is free for NVBGH Members. Space is limited; to reserve a spot, email admin@carsoncitychamber.com or call (775) 882-1565.

“The session will focus particularly on the role that carriers, brokers and employers play in developing solutions to the ACA puzzle,” Sullivan said, noting that he and the NVBGH have devoted this session to helping these leaders understand:

· The ACA impact on plan design and wellness initiatives
· Turning Employer Shared Responsibility assessments into a health care strategy
· The hidden impact of the ACA on employers with fewer than 50 employees

“The Affordable Care Act has raised more questions for employers than it has answered,” said Allen Meadows, executive director and CEO of Nevada Business Group on Health. “The delay of the employer mandate, affordability safe harbors, measurement periods, reporting requirements and discrimination testing create uncertainty for employers, brokers and carriers as they plan for 2014 and beyond.”

As the person responsible for developing effective health care, benefits, compensation, and business solutions for AIM’s member and non-member companies, and with over 25 years in human resources for health care and technology companies, Meadows says, “Speaker Russ Sullivan will offer valuable knowledge and experience that Nevada employers can benefit from as they navigate the new healthcare laws.”

NVBGH was originally formed in 1995 as a partnership between large public employers and private employers to do group contracting with area hospitals and health care purchasing programs.

NVBGH and its management company Nevada Health Partners (NHP) now represent approximately 30,000 lives from employer members Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, Baldini’s Sports Casino, Carson Nugget, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Click Bond, Silver Legacy Resort, Carson Tahoe Health Systems, City of Reno, City of Sparks, Club Cal Neva, Diocese of Reno, IGT, John Ascuaga’s Nugget, Lakeside Inn and Casino, NV Energy, Washoe County, and Washoe County School District.
