Plans for air travel, the future of bike trails in the region and other transportation improvement issues will be the subject of a public open house, May 18 from 4-7 p.m., at the Nevada Legislative Building in Carson City.

The open house will provide citizens the opportunity to learn proposals and plans for key community projects that re-enforce the connections between roads, trails, transit, and air while promoting sustainable communities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and better serve the economy. Public comment is encouraged and complimentary appetizers and beverages will be served.

“The various transportation projects will positively influence daily work and recreational needs for area residents in the greater Carson City, Carson Valley, Reno, Lake Tahoe areas,” said Carl Hasty, District Manager, Tahoe Transportation District. “Connecting the various systems will promote safety, convenience, economic growth and quality of life we all enjoy. We want to know what the folks who will be affected by these efforts think about the projects.”

Recent transportation forums hosted by TTD and project partners in North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe attracted enthusiastic public participation. “It’s a major benefit to everyone when we hear from the people who are familiar with the area and are willing to provide constructive suggestions and comments,” said Hasty.

Additional open houses are also being planned for Reno and the Carson Valley in June.

The transportation planning open house is being hosted by the Tahoe Transportation District and Northern Nevada Transportation Collaborative in cooperation with Nevada Department of Transportation, Washoe County Transportation Commission, Airport Authority, Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, Douglas County, BlueGo, Washoe County Parks, Carson City Parks, Nevada State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service.
