A Northern California woman died of an apparent drowning after being found Wednesday afternoon face down in the water on the north shore of Topaz Lake, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities have identified the victim as Janneke Strong, 36, of Fort Bragg. The cause of death has not been determined and is pending results from an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.
At 1:48 p.m. a witness called authorities to report a person face down in approximately 4 feet of water along the shore.
East Fork Fire Paramedics arrived on scene and began advanced life saving efforts to the woman. She was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center where she died at 3:04 p.m.
