May 1 – Opening day of the 2011 fishing season at Hobart Reservoir in the mountains between Carson City and Lake Tahoe.

The sun shines for the first time for 24 hours a day at Barrow, Alaska. The 24 hours of daily sunshine will last until July 31.

This season closes the last day of February 2012.
