Gusty winds and low humidity expected Tuesday has prompted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a Red Flag Warning for the Sierra Front including Carson City.
The warning is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday for areas north of Interstate 80 and the Sierra Front extending to Carson City and Carson Valley, with anticipated winds southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph and humidity between 10 and 15 percent.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be the breeziest days and with much of the concern for locations mainly along the Sierra Front and north of Interstate 80 in Western Nevada.
The weather service advises that the combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow. People should avoid outdoor activities such has target shooting, yard work or campfires that can spark fire near dry vegetation.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, daytime highs will be in the upper 80s Monday, mid-80s Tuesday, upper 70s Wednesday with a slight chance of thunderstorms and dipping down to the upper 50s to 60 by Thursday with nighttime lows in the upper 30s, according to the weather service.
