Several weak systems will pass through the Sierra and northwest Nevada this week bringing a cooling trend to the region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

While high temperatures will be near to just slightly below normal, it will feel downright chilly compared to the record or near record warmth the past five days. In addition to the cooler temperatures, breezy conditions are expected today and Tuesday along with slight chances for showers north of Interstate 80 Tuesday through Thursday, according to the weather service.

Gusty winds will develop Tuesday as a low pressure system moves across the region. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 to 40 mph possible. This will create hazardous boating conditions on Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake Tuesday afternoon. Strong crosswinds are also possible along roadways and areas of reduced visibility below 2 miles expected in regions of blowing dust downwind of desert and sink areas across western Nevada.

Another colder system is possible late in the weekend or early next week. Confidence is high that temperatures are going to cool to near or even below normal this week; however, exact daily temperature forecasts may change slightly. For Carson City and Carson Valley, the forecast high Tuesday is 64 and breezy; Wednesday, 56 with a slight chance of rain or snow showers at night and Thursday, 53. Dayton will see a high temperature Tuesday of around 62, a high Wednesday of 54 with a slight chance of rain or snow showers at night, and Thursday, 51.
