Hot weather and the potential for thunderstorms are expected for the Carson City region this week, according to the National Weather Service.
Afternoon highs will climb to near 100 across much of western Nevada valleys with highs of 85-95 in the Sierra.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, daytime temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 90s with the potential to climb higher Tuesday through Thursday, according to the weather service.
Thunderstorms are possible Tuesday to Friday, with the highest chances south of Highway 50. Strong outflow winds, dry lightning strikes and brief heavy rain are possible with any storms that develop.
The weather service advises that if you have outdoor plans this week, remember to keep your pets indoors, never leave them in a vehicle, drink plenty of water, try to stay in the shade and have a plan to seek shelter if thunderstorms develop.
