Hot and dry weather will continue through at least Monday with gusty winds expected to arrive, prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a Red Flag Warning for Carson City and much of Western Nevada beginning Sunday.
Winds Sunday will be out of the southwest, 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. For Monday, gusts up to 40 mph will combine with low humidity and dry fuels to create conditions where fires can rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them. Humidity will be between 7 and 13 percent.
Because of the Red Flag Warning, the weather services advises residents to exercise caution near dry grass and brush to prevent new fire starts. Gusty winds will also create choppy conditions on area lakes Sunday, with more hazardous conditions likely Monday. Boating, kayaking, and paddle boarding will be hazardous. Remember to wear a personal flotation device at all times.
Daytime high temperatures for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will be in the upper 80s through Tuesday.
