Cooler summer weather along with isolated to scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected throughout the week for the Sierra and Carson City region as low pressure off the California coast continues to pull moisture north into the Great Basin, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy rain with localized flash flooding is possible through the early part of the week. Other threats include abundant lightning, small hail, erratic wind gusts up to 50 mph, and rapid drops in temperatures, the weather service states.
While the Western Nevada region experienced near-record breaking high temperatures last week, this week will likely see highs in the mid to upper 80s through at least Thursday, according to the weather service. Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas can expect afternoon highs to edge between 85 to 90, with a 20 to 40 percent chance for isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
