A weather system will move across the Lake Tahoe and Carson City region Sunday and Monday, with snow showers expected to drop to the valley floor by Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The system will be weaker than last weekend’s storm, but generally colder. Sunday will begin breezy, and a Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for Lake Tahoe. Daytime highs Sunday for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will be in the low to mid 50s with snow possible Sunday night into Monday morning.
This system is expected to come in two waves, the first being early Monday morning for the Carson City area, and then again Monday night into Tuesday morning. While snow totals in the Sierra will not be overly impressive, travel impacts can be expected in the Lake Tahoe Basin and over Sierra passes with snow levels dropping to the valley floors by Monday morning, the weather service says.
Monday’s high for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will be around 40, with lows in the mid 20s. A couple inches of snow is possible on the valley floors.
Overall confidence in snow totals is medium with error margins leaning towards slightly higher totals for Sierra locations; 4 to 8 inches around Lake Tahoe would not be surprising over the two-day period, according to the weather service.
Light snow accumulations Monday morning and again Tuesday morning may cause travel difficulties, with slick, icy conditions for the morning commutes around the Reno and Carson City areas, especially around rush hour.
Tuesday and Wednesdays highs around Carson City will be in the mid 40s. For updates and local conditions go to CarsonWeather.com.
