Another Pacific storm will move into the Sierra this afternoon through Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Travelers can expect impacts over mountain passes through Monday. Rain is expected to reach the Carson City region by this afternoon.

Forecasters haven’t advised of any high winds for the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas. In the Sierra, winds gusts of 45 mph are expected with this system, with a quick burst of gusts up to 50 mph right along the storm front.

The system will provide another round of wind, rain and high elevation snow today with snow levels lowering quickly behind a cold front that will sweep through the region. Southwest winds will also proceed the cold front. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.

This weaker system will produce another surge of moisture for the Sierra this afternoon, with rain reaching the crest by early afternoon. Snow levels will start off above 8,000 feet with snow levels dropping near 7,000 feet by late afternoon, according to the weather service.

This may impact passes along the Sierra as snow begins to mix with rain. Snow levels will continue to fall into early Monday morning with snowfall possible down to 6,000 feet. Accumulation estimates look to be 6 to 12 inches of snow across the Sierra with locally about a foot to 18 inches possible.

In Carson City, there’s a 50 percent chance of rain this afternoon, with rain likely tonight and a 50 percent chance of rain Monday. About a quarter-inch to a half-inch is possible in the valleys. Today’s high temperature is 53 and Monday’s high 47.
