A spring storm is expected to bring snow over Sierra passes and some rain to the Carson City region over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. By Thursday daytime high temperatures will drop 20-25 degrees compared to last weekend.
Gusty winds will pick up today as the storm approaches with widespread gusts up to 30 mph with rain showers and high elevation snow showers expected late tonight through at least Friday morning, the weather service states. Temperatures for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas range from the low to mid 60s today, tonight 38, and daytime highs Thursday in the low 50s.
Snow levels will be around 6,000 feet with chain controls possible along all Sierra passes including Tioga, Ebbetts, and Sonora passes.
Expect winter driving conditions and possible chain controls over Sierra passes. Anyone planning outdoor activities in the Sierra or western Nevada should expect much cooler weather with rain and high mountain snow.
