If you have plans to go over the Sierra tonight, you may want to rethink them or at least pack some tire chains. More snow is making its way across the Sierra, especially in the higher elevations over mountain passes, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, motorists can expect rain showers to continue Thursday night, mainly before 11 p.m. with a low of around 38. It will be breezy, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. There's a 30 percent chance of rain Friday, with showers Friday night but should clear out by Saturday, according to the weather service.
Snow in the high Sierra expected to continue overnight and last through Friday. Expect winter driving conditions and possible chain controls over Sierra passes.
