If you have the kind of luck that brings rain as soon as you wash your car, please drive over to Squeaky’s Car Wash at the corner of Highway 50 E and Lompa Lane. It’s their opening weekend and they are offering free car washes and raising funds for the Carson City Community Counseling Center.
If you consider yourself adventurous, then the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry in Virginia City is for you. It’s not nicknamed the Testicle Festival for nothing! If you need some liquid courage, take part in the Ball Breaker Saloon Crawl. The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade heads down C Street at noon.
Kids ages 8-17 can take to the skies Saturday morning thanks to Young Eagle flights offered by EAA Sierra Chapter #403. The Experimental Aircraft Association gives interested kids the opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. Registration is at 8 a.m. and orientation is at 8:30 a.m. at the Carson City Airport. Don’t be late!
Head downtown Saturday for the St. Patrick’s Day Film Crawl. Five short films (ten minutes or less) will be playing at five different locations, all featuring a fun St. Patrick’s Day fact. Make sure to vote for your favorite – the audience choice winner will be announced at 10 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater.
Saturday is Pi Day, an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (or 3/14 in the month/day date format), since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π in decimal form.
Sunday enjoy the choirs of local elementary schools at the Capital City Community Band’s Salute to Young Musicians Concert in the Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater. It won’t cost you a thing, but donations are always welcome.
Every week, I create a list of the fun stuff and events going on around the Carson City area for my Facebook page, I Love Carson City. There is quite a bit to do in our beautiful capital this week, so grab the kids, your friends, and family and have a great weekend.
My weekly Facebook list includes Friday-Thursday, so please go here for events beyond Sunday, or just wait for my daily ‘Things to do’ here on Carson Now. You do NOT need a Facebook account to access the information. If you have an event that I have overlooked, feel free to send me an email at ILoveCarsonCityNV@gmail.com.
