The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Tuesday as gusty winds and low humidity are expected to develop throughout the western Nevada Sierra front region, including Carson City.
The winds are also expected to bring widespread haze over the region due to the Trailhead Fire burning in northern California.

Winds will be from southwest to west, 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph. The combination of wind and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them, according to the weather service statement.

Outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting or campfires is strongly discouraged.

The weather services also advises that winds will be strong enough during the afternoons and evenings this week to produce choppy conditions at area lakes. Boaters, kayakers, paddle boarders, and all others on the lakes are urged to stay up-to-date with weather conditions and the forecast through this week.

Lake Tahoe’s water temperatures are still very cold, in the 60s, so those out on the water should wear personal flotation devices at all times. Hypothermia can set in quickly if you fall into the water, so take precautions and protect yourself, family, and friends from a tragic accident.

After a high near 90 for Monday, Independence Day, Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will likely see daytime high temperatures in the mid 80s through at least Thursday, according to the weather service.
