Snow showers will return to the Sierra and Carson City area as a weather system, known as a "slider" moves into the region Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

At this time the most likely forecast is for up to 2 inches of snow possible on the western Nevada valley floors and up to 4 inches in the Sierra. Some locations may not be impacted by snow showers.

Be prepared for icy roads and longer than normal travel times, especially if you are driving during peak commute hours or heading into the Sierra.

Meanwhile, the forecast through Sunday around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas is expected to be mostly sunny but cold, with a high just above freezing and lows in the single digits. The weather system will move in Monday and by Tuesday, sunny skies return but again with cold temperatures with highs in the low 30s and lows in the low teens.

There's a slight chance for snow showers on Wednesday, Thursday should be mostly sunny and New Year's Day, sunny with a high of 38.
