It’s a ducky day to be a dog. The Nevada Humane Society’s annual Duck Race and Festival in downtown Reno raises funds for our area shelters and gives one lucky duck the chance to win a car. Splash Dogs at Heritage Park in Gardnerville has one last day of competitions for some talented pooches. Bring your favorite four-legged friend to DAWG Days at Mona Lisa and Wine for a special painting class. The rest of Sunday’s options are below.

SUNDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival Final Day

  • American Legends and Wild Horses Event and with at 5 Clover Ranch: 3060-D US Hwy 395 N, Minden (8am-2pm; FREE to the public; parking: $5 per car, 8:30am-11am Pancake Breakfast $6; 10am-11:30am Cowboy Church)
  • Nevada Artists Association Art Exhibit featuring Vilma Weneck and Photography by Chas. H. McDonnell, III at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)
  • CC BMX Racing at the Livermore (Edmonds) Sports Complex: 1555 Livermore Lane (signups 9am-10am; $10, must be USABMX member; new rider kits available)
  • Breakfast and Bowl at Carson Lanes (9am-12pm; breakfast and unlimited bowling until noon $13, $8 kids 12 and younger)
  • Emblem Club Rummage Sale at the Elk’s Club: 505 N. Nevada St. (9am-12pm)
  • Huge Re-Location Sale at Touched By Angels Home and Garden Shop: moving from 108 E John to 205 E John (Furniture, carpeting, appliances and much more)
  • Virginia and Truckee Round-trip Steam Train Rides -leave from Carson City Eastgate Depot: on Flint Drive, off U.S. Highway 50 East at 10am- Depart Virginia City Depot 3pm (tickets limited, $52, seniors and veterans $48, kids 3-16 $32; NV locals get 20% Off Adult Pre-Purchased Tickets For Roundtrip Rides with code LOCALS at www.vtrailway.com )
  • Splash Dogs: Dog dock-jumping at Heritage Park, Gardnerville (9am-3pm; big dock open to beginners 8am-9am, $10 training fee)
  • McKeen Motor Car Rides at the Nevada State Train Museum (10am-4pm, trains depart every half hour; $8, $4 kids 11 and under)
  • Nevada Humane Society’s Duck Race and Festival at Wingfield Park, Reno (11am-5pm; $5 duck adoption available until 3pm, race 4pm; food trucks, live music, vendors, pet adoptions, sunbathing, face painting, a carnival, duckie corn hole, photo bombing and more)

Pack a picnic and grab the family. The Capitol lawn welcomes the final two performances of this year’s successful Jazz and Beyond Music Festival.

  • Barony of Fal Dare, Amtgard Live Action Role Play Plus Combat Group at Mills Park, at the end of Oxoby Loop (12pm-4pm; Foam sword fighting, crafts, classes; child-friendly, under 18 must have a waiver signed by their parents; newcomers welcome, for info email FalDareMonarchy@gmail.com )
  • DAWG Days: Bring your dog Painting Class at Mona Lisa and Wine: 3821 S Carson St (1pm-4pm; $35 Includes canvas, easel, brushes, paints, apron, instruction and a house wine/cocktail or soda)
  • Sunday Funday: Free game of pool with drink purchase at Westside Pour House
  • Weekly Pool Tournament at Whiskey Tavern (register 1pm; 2pm start; $10 per person)
  • Pool Tournament at Remedy’s (2pm-5pm; $5 buy-in; APA Rules)
  • Painting Class at Van Gogh and Vino (4pm-6:30pm; August Special: $18 per painter)

  • Jazz and BEYOND Final Performance: Reno Jazz Orchestra with Trey Stone at the Capital Amphitheater (6pm-8pm; free; Rain location, if needed: Carson Mall)
  • Live Music with John Palmore at the Carson Valley Inn Cabaret, Minden (6pm-10pm)
