The Carson City region, Lake Tahoe and Sierra will likely see another blast of winter weather by the end of the weekend, with snow possible down to the valley floors, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather system may not produce much in the way of significant precipitation but it is expected to be colder, with lower snow elevations that may impact travel from the Sierra down to the valley floors around Carson City by Monday morning’s commute.
The latest weather models show an initial round of snow that will push through the Lake Tahoe area Sunday afternoon. By Sunday night, the main wave will push in with heavier precipitation in the Sierra and then spilling over into western Nevada by Monday morning.
The storm will be colder than the last storm. Winter driving conditions are likely for the Sierra and valley floors with snow levels expected to be down to near 4,000 feet. Several inches of snow is likely for the Sierra with possibly up to a food along the Sierra Crest west of Lake Tahoe through Monday.
For Western Nevada, the forecast confidence is lower for snow amounts but we may see less than a couple inches around the Carson City area.
Drier conditions are expected Tuesday and Wednesday with a gradual warmup through the end of the week, according to the weather service. For more on the local weather and forecast go to CarsonWeather.com.
