Gusty conditions and low humidity have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for much of western Nevada Sierra front, including Carson City, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Winds will be from southwest to west, 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Humidity will likely run between 8 and 15 percent. The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them, the weather service states.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Remember to follow all local fire restrictions, especially for fireworks.
Fireworks are illegal on public lands. Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
After a high near 90 for Monday, Independence Day, Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will likely see daytime high temperatures in the mid 80s through at least Friday, according to the weather service.
