Carson Now reader Scott Gorno took these amazing photos of the lighting strikes around Carson City early Saturday evening. The strikes touched off several small brush fires around the north, east and west sides of town, capping a week of repeated storm systems that moved through Northern Nevada, with one causing Wednesday's Clear Creek Fire.
Saturday's storm system knocked out power in several areas around Carson City. The last photograph in the set, that of a fire truck, is from Carson Now reader Rebecca McBean who reports that East Nye Lane has been without power for more than 5 hours as of 11:15 p.m. Saturday. A tree branch fell on power line during the storm and blew out the transformer.
Looking ahead, there's a slight chance for thunderstorms overnight through Sunday morning, probable scattered thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and a slight chance for thunderstorms again on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
A cool-down is expected Sunday through the middle of the week, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s for Carson City, Dayton and Carson Valley.
