Heading into the three-day holiday weekend, there's a chance for scattered thunderstorms developing Friday and Saturday afternoon, mainly east of Highway 395, with sunny skies and pleasant weather continuing through Monday, July 4, according to the National Weather service.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop roughly between 2 and 10 p.m. These storms could bring a strong outflow winds with gusts of 50-plus mph, dense blowing dust, lightning, and localized flash flooding.
The weather service advises homeowners to secure outdoor furniture and canopies, and clean clogged debris from drainages and gutters. For those spending time outdoors, they should have a plan to quickly head indoors if thunder and lightning develops.
There's a chance of thunderstorms Saturday as well but then the rest of the holiday weekend is looking typically warm and dry.
Daytime highs Friday for Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno area will be in the mid-90s, with the low 90s on Saturday, and the upper 80s to near 90 for Sunday and Monday, July 4.
