The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for western Carson City, Douglas County and the South Lake Tahoe, Stateline areas.
At 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located over South Lake Tahoe and moving north at 20 mph.
Locations in the warning area including Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, Glenbrook, Indian Hills, Dagget Pass, Kingsbury Grade, Spooner Summit, Zephyr Cove, Round Hill, Genoa, Fallen Leaf Campground, Highway 395 at Douglas-Carson City line, Heavenly Valley and South Lake Tahoe Airport.
The warning is through 1:30 p.m. It carries with it the chance for high winds, heavy rain, hail and deadly lightning. The weather service advises people to seek shelter inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. Boaters and swimmers on Lake Tahoe should get out immediately and move indoors.
