A strong area of low pressure is expected to move across western Nevada and the Sierra on Thursday prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Advisory for much of the region.
Gusts up to 60 mph will be possible especially between the hours of 1 to 9 p.m., the duration of the advisory and especially for wind prone areas such as the Washoe Valley.
Winds will be southwest to west, 20 to 35 mph with gusts anywhere from 45 to 55 mph. The weather service advises to close the large outdoor umbrellas and secure patio furniture as well as trash cans. Although it is still rather green outside, the weather service further advises people to avoid any activities that may spark a fire.
The unsettled weather will persist through the weekend with showers and thunderstorms expected through early next week each day. Temperatures will also fall well below average Friday and stay cool through the weekend.
High temperatures for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas will be in the low 70s on Thursday while on Friday and Saturday in the upper 50s.
