Thunderstorms with locally heavy rain and small hail are possible through tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. The good news is the heavy stuff is expected to leave the area by tonight with less of a chance for storms this weekend.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop Friday afternoon and move slowly across the Sierra into much of Western Nevada with some water ponding on area roads and gusty outflow winds up to 40 mph possible.
In the higher elevations, especially above 8,000 feet, there's a chance for snow and small hail, which may may make the roads slick.
For Saturday around Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City, there's a chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with highs in the mid 60s. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Sunday's forecast calls for a slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11 a.m. Mostly sunny, with highs near 70. West wind around 5 mph becoming north in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent. And on Memorial Day, expect mostly sunny skies and highs around 74 with a chance for showers after 11 a.m.
