Thunderstorms will develop across the Sierra this afternoon and evening, with a chance for scattered showers in the Carson City area, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Low pressure will continue to move into the region today, Wednesday and Thursday bringing a better chance of showers and thunderstorms as well as cooler temperatures to the Sierra and Western Nevada.

In Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, the weather service says there’s a 40 percent chance of scattered showers today, likely after 2 p.m., a 50 percent chance Wednesday and 40 percent Thursday.

As of around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, thunderstorms had developed in Mono and Alpine counties in the Eastern Sierra. The weather service advises those spending time outdoors in the Sierra Tuesday and Wednesday should have have a plan for shelter if a thunderstorm develops.

High temperatures today for the Carson City area are expected to be in the low 70s, with temperatures dipping some Wednesday through Friday, into the mid to low 60s.
