Winter roared back in Carson City and the Sierra this morning, with heavy snow and accumulations of a few inches on the valley floor already.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Carson City and Carson Valley regions, with a winter storm warning underway for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, according Carsonweather.com.
Areas of heavy snow has moved into Sierra north of Highway 50 and will spread south and east early this morning. The storm will bring periods of heavy to very heavy snow in the Sierra. Snowfall rates of 3 inches per hour or more are possible in the Sierra between 6 to 10 a.m., with 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour possible across western Nevada. Moderate to heavy snow showers may continue into tonight.
About 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected with this system, with locally higher amounts in the foothills above Carson City and Reno, according to the weather service. One to 2 feet of snow is expected at lake level with 3 to 5 feet above 7,000 feet.
