Have an epic story to tell about your most memorable golf shot? Switch the golf visor for a pressman's fedora and then grip, rip and write a sentence or two about it for a chance at winning a $1,500 golf trip to Carson City and Carson Valley, Nev.

“Hooked On Golf,” the seminal radio show on KNBR 680 in San Francisco and the Divine 9, Northern Nevada golf co-op of courses and lodging properties, are looking for best golf shot tales ever told, where writers take a whack via keyboard at anecdotes generally reserved for the 19th hole.

The winner of the contest will win a spot aboard Nevada's infamous Divine 9 Media Tour, set for Oct. 1 in Carson City and Carson Valley, Nev.

The Divine 9 Tour is 2 holes at 9 courses in 12 hours – and has been referred to by media as "hand-to-club and club-to-beverage combat,"“a golf destination primer-on-steroids,” and “The Bataan Golf March.” It’s sun-up to sun-down, on the bus and off the bus, onto the courses and off the courses, with the threat of mental and physical exhaustion from the demands of play and verbal repartee. (Well, it’s not that tough, what with a rolling lunch, various hydration opportunities – read: ice chest, and awards dinner.)

The winner also receives four nights lodging, two traditional rounds of golf at Divine 9 member courses, select meals, a $150 travel allowance and memories for a lifetime. The Tour provides an opportunity to sample the variety, quality and value of the Divine 9 courses: Carson Valley, Dayton Valley, Genoa Lakes – Lakes and Resort, Eagle Valley East and Eagle Valley West, Empire Ranch, Silver Oak, and Sunridge.

“It’s an offbeat event that requires someone who looks at the world through a different set of lenses,” quipped John Abendroth, Hooked on Golf's originator and co-host with Mitch Juricich since 1994.

They'll also be interviewed on the radio post-event by Abendroth and Juricich, hosts of “Hooked On Golf.” Plus, the stories will be told and retold through Facebook posts that will live in infamy.

So who might be the next Mark Twain, Hunter S. Thompson, Garrison Keillor, P.G. Wodehouse, Dan Jenkins or Jim Murray? The person who can briefly describe their most memorable shot – whether absurd, poignant, true or imagined (risqué is ok, but the only “F”s allowed should be limited to fairly family friendly). Entrants have until noon Friday, Sept. 27 to submit their entry. The winner will be announced on the "Hooked on Golf" program on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Cut loose, break-free and let your inner golf storyteller and take a swing. For entry information visit www.divinenine.com. The contest is open to anyone 21 and older. A hearty disposition and sense of humor are highly recommended.
